Meet our Medical Advisory Group members, here to support the CoppaFeel! team in reminding, educating and empowering the nation to check their boobs. We are proud to have their expertise on board to help evaluate, develop and inform our messaging and campaigns.

Dr Elizabeth Lynch

GP

Beth studied medicine at Liverpool, and has remained there working as a GP in an inner-city practice with a large student population. She has a keen interest in student health, and feels especially passionate about health promotion. Sharing basic knowledge can enable disease prevention and early detection, both key in fighting conditions like cancer. Beth is truly motivated and impassioned by CoppaFeel!’s work, and hopes to help empower young people to take control of their health by supporting their campaigns.

Dr Adam Heetun

Senior Surgical Doctor

Adam is a senior surgical doctor based on the South Coast and training to be a breast cancer surgeon with an interest in reconstructive breast surgery. He is also undertaking research into the effects of obesity and different body profiles on the development of side effects from chemotherapy. He is passionate about empowering patients with knowledge and confidence to make the right choices for them. He has also had personal experience of caring for a significant family member with breast cancer. Adam is passionate about spreading the CoppaFeel! message far and wide to get everyone to check their breasts and dispel the fear associated with self-examination. He is also looking forward to working with CoppaFeel! as it embraces an exciting future and new challenges.

Sandra Smith

Ex Practice Nurse and Pharmaceutical Representative

Sandra trained as an RGN in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in North Wales, later specialising in Women’s Health at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital and working on gynae/oncology ward at UCH before moving back to North Wales to become a practice nurse. Sandra is currently working for GSK as a Respiratory Therapy Representative. During 2017, Sandra joined the CoppaFeel! Trek to Oman and enjoyed learning more about the charity, which inspired her to raise awareness across North Wales particularly amongst the local practice nurse community.

Dr Ros Crooks

Consultant Breast Radiologist

Ros is a Consultant Breast Radiologist working within the NHS and in the private sector. Her current post is in the Royal Free London NHS Trust where she has been since 2015. Prior to this, she held a Consultant post for eight years in the Whittington Hospital in North London, where she was the Clinical Director of Diagnostics. Her work not only encompasses symptomatic work but she has also worked within the breast screening service since 2006 and is the Deputy Director of Screening in North London. Ros has a particular interest in preventative education and has run clinics for the under 35s for the last ten years. Alongside her clinical work, Ros has been involved in education at an undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as instituting and running a breast cancer education programme and support group for young breast cancer patients. With an interest in transformational culture change, Ros is hoping to bring some of her leadership skills and clinical knowledge to support CoppaFeel! in their work.

Mr Ash Subramanian

Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

Ash is a consultant breast surgeon working in sunny East Sussex trying to do his bit to make breast cancer journeys just a little bit easier for the patients he looks after. His interests outside of surgery are in effective patient communications and he spends any free time enjoying family life and trying to embarrass his children at every possible opportunity.

Claire McDonald

Behaviour Change Specialist

Claire works as a behavioural change consultant across a number of projects for both the private sector and the NHS. She first got involved with CoppaFeel! after meeting founder Kris at an event hosted by the Mayor of London. Since then, she has continued to support the team with her expertise and we are delighted to have her on board with the Medical Advisory Group.

Dr Victoria Harmer

Consultant Breast Nurse

Dr Victoria Harmer is a Macmillan breast care Consultant nurse at Imperial College NHS Trust. She manages 9 nurse specialists and is heavily involved in service delivery and improvement for both the screening and symptomatic breast services. She has published over 70 articles for nursing and medical journals, as well as editing the book ‘Breast Cancer Nursing Care and Management’. In addition, she has written several chapters in books and acted as medical adviser for radio, television and film. In 2013 she was awarded the Nursing Times Cancer Nursing award which represents excellence in nursing and patient care. Dr Harmer has a degree in nursing from Kings College, an MBA from Westminster Business School, a doctorate from Kings and is also an Associateship of Kings College.

Catherine Alam

Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Catherine has worked as an advanced nurse practitioner in a university health centre for 15 years and also recently started working at the breast unit in Liverpool. Both roles involve working closely with young people promoting breast health awareness and self checking. she enjoys teaching and is passionate about finding ways to effectively communicate important health messages that break down barriers and engage young people in issues that are relevant to them.

Mr Dibendu Betal

Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

Dib is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon in West Sussex. He originally studied Electronic Engineering then specialised in medical electronics and imaging resulting in a PhD on computer aided techniques in digitised mammograms. He went back to study medicine at Liverpool then did his surgical training in London including the Royal Marsden Hospital. He has experience liaising with a breast cancer charity collaborating on a cancer survivorship program that empowered women to adjust to life after hospital-based treatment. He has been heavily involved in improving quality of care for older women diagnosed with breast cancer. Dib likes CoppaFeel! fresh approach with simple non-jargon language to get the boobs awareness message across to a wider younger population and hopes to add his expertise to the charity’s philosophy.

Dr Rory Taylor

GP

Rory is a GP based in West London. She has a Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She is passionate about CoppaFeel! ‘s mission to get everyone to check and know their boobs/pecs and to encourage people to be proactive and present to their GP early on with any concerns.
